What is Hash?

Perhaps you’ve heard the term hash before but you weren’t quite sure what it was. Well we’re here to answer the big question: what is hash?

First, hash, which is short for hashish, is a drug that’s made by compressing and processing parts of the cannabis plant.

Humans have been consuming hashish for centuries, at least all the way back to 1123 CE, and has long been used in countries across Africa and Asia like Egypt, India, Nepal, Lebanon, and Morocco.

Hash first arrived in Europe in the 18th century and in the 19th century, it began to be embraced in the literary circles of Europe. Clubs popped up dedicated to the consumption of hashish (and other drugs). One such club included such famous authors as Honore de Balzac, Alexandre Dumas, and Victor Hugo.

Though hashish was once grown only in certain places in the world, more recent regulatory changes have opened things up and now hashish is grown and sold basically all over the entire world, including many places in the US like at your local herb collective.

Hash has been produced for centuries, so many of the techniques used date back hundreds of years. There are newer techniques, though, like the ice water separation method or the heat and pressure separation method, and many of these newer techniques have proven very good at increasing the strength of the hash produced.

The hash itself is a concentrate product composed of compressed or purified preparations of stalked resin glands from the cannabis plant and you can consume hash by smoking it (in all your standard ways: joints, vaporizers, bongs, and pipes) or by eating it if it’s made into an edible.

Hash can be more potent than weed, requiring less to get a similar level of high, so it’s important to understand different dosages between the two.

Hash is commonly sold at an herb dispensary where it is legal like at Greenhouse Herbal Center in Los Angeles, our dispensary on Hollywood Boulevard, which was established in 2006 and offers free weed delivery under five miles from the store (with a minimum $30 purchase). We have many hash infused products so if you are interested in trying this out, pay us a visit or check out the menu on our website to see more.
